Jackson's Landing

It seems as though all is not as was intended at Jackon's Landing. Go to http://jacksonslanding.net.au/node/496 and follow the links to the Community conversation notes (PP file).

As a comment below, answer the following questions.

What are the (8) amended items from the master plan (2003) that are still to be completed?

Outline three problems that have been experienced at Jackson's Landing.

What (if anything) has been done to fix these issues?

Is this community action an example of that of an active civil society? (see p. 146 - TB)

How have individuals (tried) to make a difference here?

  2. What are the (8) amended items from the master plan (2003) that are still to be completed?
The eight amended items from the master plan (2003) that are still to be completed are:
    • Work‐based childcare facility
    • Clearly defined foreshore recreational cycle path to minimise conflict between pedestrians and cyclists
    • Marked commuter cycle route on Bowman, John & Jones Sts
    • Extension of fiber optic cable from Harris Street to provide
    telephone and data transfer services
    • Playground facilities
    • 3 sections of boardwalk
    • Public berthing facility in Elizabeth Bay

Outline three problems that have been experienced at Jackson's Landing.

    • Water ingress
    • Sewer
    • Air-conditioning

What (if anything) has been done to fix these issues?

    • Water ingress – LL has made attempts to fix since 2002– still not fixed (9 years).
    • Sewer – had taken LL to court.
    • Air-conditioning – replaced 50% of compressors.

How have individuals (tried) to make a difference here?

Individuals have obviously tried to make a difference here by complaining to LL on many problems; some of which are still not fixed, such as the complaint on air conditioning, water ingress, air- conditioning, and the sewer, which led to a law suit.

Is this community action an example of that of an active civil society? (see p. 146 - TB)

Yes, this community action is an example of an active civil society because this community action involves the cooperation of over 200 angry owners, and the action that they had acted upon LL in response to the sewer not being fixed was for their own benefits. It was an issue that affected possibly all or most of these home owners.
