It is obvious that some of you haven't taken this assessment, class or teacher seriously. So its time to find out why. Write a short reflection (100-150 WORDS) about PART B of the assessment task.
Evaluate what was achieved and or displayed. What was the best aspect of the presentations. What was the worst? What more could we have done as a group? You as an individual? Me as a teacher?
The most important thing is to be honest. If it didn't work, why? If if did, why? I'll also give my opinion. Feel free to add or comment on it also as you wish. Feel free to assess what you deem to be appropriate.
We have three students who weren’t ready to present; one of whom decided to make his PP after the due date. We have another student who plagiarised, one who didn’t present as he wasn’t ready due to software issues; and five others who presented primary data and research that was obviously not theirs.
ReplyDeleteI don’t understand this. You were given the assessment FOUR weeks before the due date. You were given two lessons on what the assessment was, a further lesson to work on it, as well as an excursion to the area that (most of) you researched.
Is it general apathy towards the subject or the task? Only five students received what could be termed decent marks. Only one student received full marks. Does this not seem odd to you? Whilst the task was large, it was not difficult. What is it that we need to change?
I believe that overall the class did really good except for the 5 who didn’t have nothing but then still presented at the end showed me that they could’ve done it. I personally couldn’t do it because there were to many assessments handed out during the last 3-4 weeks so i didn’t know which one to start and the fact that we had to wait until the excursion which was like a week before we had to hand it up just put me down. I am disappointed on myself, but everyone makes mistakes so i’ll put more effort in next time and i’ll try to hand it up by the due date. Sandro.
ReplyDeleteIt is true that everyone makes mistakes but sometimes the mistakes we make could be avoided. Whilst it is a busy time for assessments it will only get busier. Tell me, you missed out on this work but did you make any real time for it?
ReplyDeleteThis acv assignment was pretty easy, but it was very time consuming. Making us go out and obtaining the primary resource really gave me the “cbf” mood. Although I think I did alright, I could have done better. People in the class I reckon did pretty bad as an overall. Only one that didn’t get me bored was tapiwa, jay and phi’s presentation, the rest was “yeah you know, it’s only geo, won’t need it in future” but it is letting everyone down giving our class a bad average mark. Also, to the people who haven’t done it, I feel uneasy. As majority of the class went out and gave it a try, some just sat on their lounges and scratched their asses. In my opinion, sir did a good job preparing us for this. When he first told us that we had to do the recycling RAP for lasalle, I was whinging and didn’t know what to do, but when I started my assignment it helped me out a lot.

I also forget that we did the recycling @ LaSalle practice task. Another reason why this is hard to take. The fact that people may not care about this subject is concerning as whatever you choose to do in the future it too will involve things that you won't wish to do.

My opinion of the assessment is that part of the class did not try to complete with a good standard. This shows that within the 3 – 4 weeks we had they left it to the last weekend to do and some didn’t even do it. I do think that he excursion was done to late because I had already started the assessment before the excursion and I also think that people left it to the last minute because they thought that they should wait for the excursion before they even look at it.
ReplyDeleteI think Michael did good because throughout his presentation he kept the audience awake and listening and did not bore anyone.
In my opinion,i believe that Part B was easy, because all you had to do was get pictures and write informations down of what you used for your research action plan.
ReplyDeleteHowever, i was strongly shocked to see that some people in the class didnt do it.
It was worth 10 marks and it takes only 30 minutes of your time to do it.
I believe that the people who didnt do it are either lazy or really dont care about their education.

ReplyDeleteFor me, the assessment wasn’t hard. I think the main factor of it was that it was time consuming and the fact that most assessments were due around the same time so we had to balance things out to get all of these tasks done.
ReplyDeleteI think that most people did their presentation or the whole assessment on the weekend before the due date and that was a key factor to poor or no results and I also think that most people didn’t understand it. What we could have done was do an example as a class do see what needed to be done as well as to give people an idea of how to do it
The acv assignment for me was pretty hard because i was really unorganised and i didn't spend enough time on the assignment. Also i wasn't really sure on what i should do because i couldn't be bothered listening in class and was busy cutting up franks book. I should have been more like JESSSSIIIEE and done something more unique. And also i should of actually went out and asked people instead of making up random crap. I should have also used better websites instead of using wikipedia and also i should have added some sound to mine like john le to make mine more awesome.

ReplyDeleteInteresting to see that the student who achieved the highest mark (?) said that the assessment "wasn't hard" but it was "time consuming."
I think in that the only people that did it right and that was any good was Tap, Jay Albert Ma, John and Michael. That I think that the reason why I did crap in my presentation is that rushed it and that i got nervous when doing it and that I will try to do better next time I just don’t like presentations because I get nervous when I have to do a task like this. I think it was easy but a lot of work so overall I think it was pretty easy.

ReplyDeleteI think that most of the class didn’t put much effort in it because we don’t take ACV seriously. I left it to the last few days or so to actually do it because i wasn’t really bothered to do it, and it looked easy but just took a lot of time. Also I thought that the excursion should’ve been a little earlier so it would be easier to start the assignment with the information we got from it. The best part of the presentations was the photos because i felt I could get information easier from them and faster than the people reading out. The worst part was the huge blocks of text that were being read straight from the powerpoint and some of them weren’t really readable with the font colour and background. I was kind of nervous during the presentation and forgot some information that i was going to mention, and besides making the powerpoint and reading over it, I didn’t really prepare a speech for it. The preparation for the powerpoint with the recycling presentation was good because it basically showed me what i was meant to do. I was pretty disappointed towards the people who didn’t present their presentations after sir mentioned that they would bring our marks down.

The main problem I had with this assessment’s part B was that it only required us to complete 5 slides on the assessment sheet, which is not enough to receive a full mark or talk for 3 minutes.
ReplyDeleteI also think that we should have been given information on other areas and not just Ultimo-Pyrmont, so to give us some reason to do our assignments on an area besides Ultimo-Pyrmont.
A further problem I found was that the excursion that was supposed to give us most of the information we needed happened 3 weeks into the assignment making the Ultimo-Pyrmont area the greatest chance we had at attaining a high mark.
Because of all this the only place that we were given substantial information for before starting the assessment was Ultimo-Pyrmont making it harder to base your presentation on another area unless you started research before the excursion that was supposed to provide us with information vital to our assessments.
And the blog site lags on Internet e\Explorer.
Ok I’m going to be really honest. 1st of i really hate acv and i really don’t need it. As for Part B I know I should’ve done better. The fact that i didn’t presented my assignment but then presented the next time was a disappointed. I reckon the overall is really poor. As for the excursion we had to wait about a week was really shi....poor and i couldn’t really learn because i was at the bottom of the boat and i was distracted by a lot of people made me not bothered listening. To continue to Part B i wasn’t really prepared the fact that i spent 1 week on it and found out it wasn’t really enough was very troublesome and i get really nervous and shy when i present and i know steve nguyen shy? Is wtf. But hey im human (:

In my opinion, I thought that I could have included more information to back up my statements.
ReplyDeleteI could have spent more time on this assignment, and write down more information about the actual Ultimo/Pyrmont decline and growth and explain it more in detail to gain more marks and made it to a professional standard. But I believe that the only people who were really good were JAY and Tapiwa to be able to create a professional presentation at that standard. The people who I thought could have put more effort was Frank, because I thought he looked disappointed and sad at the time and he should have asked for helped, because we are all here for each other, like a family.

This assignments was ver hard. we had too do so much work in so little time and the excersion and the due date were too close to each other. also i had too many other assignments due in the same week. too the people that didnt do it , they are no different to us so they should of completed it like how we should of. jay , tap , adrian, albert did a very good job .

Charlie you were allowed the five topics/but allowed to have up to two slides for each. To say that it is "not enough" to receive full marks though is incorrect, as others have shown.

When it said that we had to survey people i thought i would just be a lazy a$$ and take other peoples surveys of the internet.
I also have the problem when i speak in front of a class i get really nervous when i go up and i speed through everything and miss out on half of the slide.
As i said i am not the best when it comes to presentations but i should of been more prepared for when i went up to talk about urban decline
And the Gentrification when you said i said it but i didn’t know what it means.. i didn’t say that word it was just in the picture that’s why i only pointed to urban Decline and Urban Renewal because i know what they are

ReplyDeleteIn my opinion we had plenty of time to do the task we were assigned to do. But there was not much of a reminder for me so I completely forgot about it until the last week before the assessment was due we only went on the excursion 1 week before the task was due, so for me it was extremely difficult. It took me about 4 days to complete the rap booklet. But I could not do it well because I lost my booklet and I did not get any reminders until it was almost due.

Many student were able to complete it but as I walk around the playground I see a lot of students talking about it and forgetting about it.

well. i think the assessment did not work out for most people because of the following reasons;
ReplyDelete1. Excursion was scheduled closer to the assessment hand-in date.
2. Some steps were a little bit complicated.
3. We didn't quite understand the task properly, even with instructions, it was still complicated.
4. Some people should do the assessment because it is necessary for everyone to work together to raise their marks.
I didnt do my part B of my assessment task because i didnt have enough time like i did have enough but my laptop was broken and my acv assessment task was in it so i had to start all over again part a and part b like my computer was broken and i got suspended from school a week before the assessment task was due and then when i came back to school the assessment task was due and then sir gave me and extra week to finish it off bt i found that it was enough time for me to finish it cause i could only do it in school becasue i dont even have internet at homeso yeah whatever the consequences are il just have to accept it and move on but yeah other then that the class did goo overall except for the five people and i was one of them five people so yeah im pretty disaoppointed in myself for not doing the acv assesment

ReplyDeleteMy opinion on based on the ACV assignment and the class was I had many negatives and positives on what I thought was going on peers, teaching and teachers. The preparation was unorganised and unprepared for the Acv assignment. The preparation was much unorganised with only a 2 days lesson to for help for the assessment task. Other classes had a week or even 2 for preparation for the Acv assessment task and they also had sheets been handed to pick which area to do for urban decline and growth. More time is needed in classes for preparation of the assessment task instead of focusing on text book work but our marks. Peers in our class who weren’t bothered to do the assignment had our a huge impact for everyone else with the unfairness of students who did do the assessment task spent quality time to do what had to be done instead of those who didn’t do it have a bludge and having more free time and thinking that they can get away of not doing an assignment. With 3-4weeks of doing this assignment Acv teachers should be helping students once a week on the assessment task. Effort on the assessment task was with using primary sources and having well done research was only Jay, Tapiwa, Roni and Michael who spent time having a good presentation and spent time taking photos and having good quality Primary sources. Students in the assessment task should be bothered to get primary sources because they had 4 weeks to complete this task. Overall the class was very lazy on their assessment task and should have asked for help instead of panicking in the last minute and having a bad presentation or not handing anything at all.
If there is a minimum of 5 slides most would only do five slides.
ReplyDeleteI think that part B of my assessment task was good in some ways and bad in other ways. I think that I could have provided more information about Pyrmont for example: Maps, graphs and statistics. When I was presenting I could of face the class better instead of reading just off the power point. I think that the assignment was easy to understand but in some sections it was very confusing for a lot of people. And I think those five people that didn’t do the assignment really wrecked I for everybody. At first I was very confused but as i started my work and really getting into it I started to get what i was doing. I think if anybody was struggling with the work they should go and ask sir for help or just ask and friend for some advice. I tried my best. WILL GEE
